In 1994, Rwanda experienced one of the greatest crimes against humanity. An estimated 1 million people were killed in a 100 day mass killing spree across the country leaving behind a massive population of orphaned
Seventeen years on, the after shock of the genocide continues to remain a challenge, with as many as 1 million orphaned and disadvantaged children across Rwanda. Many of these children live in child headed households, where without the support of parents or guardians, they are unable to attend primary school and are forced to earn a living, working on the land.
Rwandan Orphans Assistance Response Incorporated (ROAR Inc.) is a non profit organisation based in Sydney Australia, whose mission is to improve educational outcomes of Rwandan orphans and disadvantaged children. We strongly believe that education is the key to the success of Rwanda’s future, the children of Rwanda. Our aim is to raise funds to assist disadvantaged children and orphans in rural areas of Rwanda in the area of education and health.
We work closely with primary schools in Rwanda to identify those children in need. We are committed to raising funds to help pay school related expenses such as uniforms, shoes and school supplies, on behalf of the orphans and disadvantaged children in Rwanda. To date we have assisted more than 1000 orphans and disadvantaged children at Linganwe School. This year we are extending our projects to include providing access to clean water to the children of Linganwe School, by building a well in the school, that the entire village to share.
ROAR is an incorporated association legally registered in NSW Office of Fair Traiding since June 2006. We have an authority to fundraise from the NSW Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing. We are currently working to obtain Deductible Gift Recipient status through AusAid for individuals. Companies are able to treat sponsorships as a legitimate business expense and will not be effected by ROAR’S current tax status. INC9885764
